Originally, this property was reserved for gentry who lived at the top of the hill, and for county magnates. The ‘lower classes’ who lived at the bottom of the hill were not allowed to set foot into the property.

There are many reported instances of paranormal activity within the property, where staff and guests alike have seen an image of a Cavalier standing in the doorway, have heard footsteps when no one is there and have been pushed. Many staff members refuse to enter the cellars unaccompanied, because they have a sinister feeling of being watched and have a growing sense of fear and foreboding.

The County Assembly Rooms, situated in the heart of historic Lincoln and built in 1745, is surrounded by history and paranormal activity. The building is flanked between Lincoln Cathedral on one side and Lincoln Castle on the other.

The impressive architecture of this building is the first thing that strikes you as you approach and its location in one of the oldest parts of Lincoln, steeped in history takes your breath away.

The County Assembly Rooms has had many different uses and has hosted many memorable events in its time.

Originally, the property was reserved for gentry who lived at the top of the hill, and for county magnates. The ‘lower classes’ who lived at the bottom of the hill were not allowed to set foot into the property.

There are also reports of an illicit gambling den being held somewhere in the rear of the property, where many many disputes turned into brawls, with a few leading to death.

The next incarnation for the County Assembly Rooms was when the building became shrouded in the mystery of becoming a Masonic Temple, and masonic symbols can still be seen in the property.
